Rachel Bloom Sings Her Hugo-Nominated Love Song to Her Favorite Spec-Fic Author, “Fuck Me, Ray Bradbury”

I love this girl, a kindred spirit. Discovered her through her small-screen series, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (2015-2019). Came for the Filipinos, stayed for the Jews and the music. Oy, the songs! [Explicit “JAP Battle” version here, with dance moves. I got almost all the Jewish references, by the way, the rest I looked up.]

From 25 November, 2022: On the 59th anniversary of the funeral of our own murdered-in-broad-daylight John Fitzgerald Kennedy, nothing moves me as much as the handful of scenes (here on my YT channel) where RD’s time-traveling spaceship crew—Kryten the android, Rimmer the Hologram, Cat the evolved cat, and Dave Lister the last human in the universe—unite with a disgraced JFK to right a timeline gone wrong and restore our 35th president’s shining legacy to history. That’s American actor Michael J Shannon playing Kennedy / The Shooter on the Grassy Knoll.

Was thrilled to find on YouTube the full first season [https://bit.ly/room222season1] of a TV show I adored in high school, Peabody Award-winning Room 222; was doubly thrilled to hear again prolific Hollywood composer’s Jerry Goldsmith’s sweet simple theme in ear-catching 7/8 time.

To my mind, Star Trek IV and Galaxy Quest are the two movie scores which best convey the whole Star Trek ethos: the jaunty energy of military adventure + the thrilling, life-changing mix of wonder and belief… A very 1960s spirit and I doubt we’ll ever be able to return to it, but anyway. Leonard Rosenman, incidentally, was a pupil of Schoenberg.
