Below is an early portrait of gay, part-Cherokee, Claremore OK native playwright/scenarist Lynn Riggs (1899 – 1954), whose 1931 stage play, Green Grow the Lilacs, was successfully produced by the legendary Theatre Guild and revived 12 years later as the musical…well, you know.

But before those Oklahoma! checks started rolling in, Riggs plied his trade in Hollywood as a screenwriter—here are two of his most enjoyable movies on my YouTube channel:
- The Garden of Allah (Dietrich, Boyer) [https://youtu.be/o6Y0bJWaKPY]
- Sherlock Holmes and the Voice of Terror (Rathbone, Bruce) [https://youtu.be/wOFHBqV-HP4]
In 2019 a radically reimagined Oklahoma! premiered on Broadway with a new, scaled down arrangement, using Robert Russell Bennett’s framework but giving the music a vibrancy and an authentic twang I’ve really never heard before. New orchestration by Daniel Kluger; vocal coaching by Barbara Maier Gustern, her shining triumph:
- Oh What a Beautiful Morning [bit.ly/Oklahoma001]
- Laurey’s Entrance [bit.ly/Oklahoma02]
- The Surrey With the Fringe on Top [bit.ly/Oklahoma03]
- Kansas City [bit.ly/Oklahoma04]
- I Cain’t Say No [bit.ly/Oklahoma05]
- Many a New Day [bit.ly/Oklahoma06]
- It’s a Scandal! It’s an Outrage! [bit.ly/Oklahoma07]
- People Will Say We’re In Love [bit.ly/Oklahoma08]
- Poor Jud [bit.ly/Oklahoma09]
- Lonely Room [bit.ly/Oklahoma10]
- Out of My Dreams [bit.ly/Oklahoma11]
- Dream Ballet [bit.ly/Oklahoma12]
- The Farmer and the Cowman [bit.ly/Oklahoma13]
- All Er Nuthin [bit.ly/Oklahoma14]
- People Will Say We’re in Love Reprise [bit.ly/Oklahoma15]
- Oklahoma! [bit.ly/Oklahoma16]
